Destiny 2: Season of the Hunt Review — Sit Back and Watch the Sunset [9]

A new year, a new expansion and a brand new Destiny 2 season has transformed the cycle of content and is already about to disappear into the next. Seasonal content is always tricky to review when it’s launched at the same time as an expansion but this feedback will be focusing on how Season of the Hunt performed and not the content included in Beyond Light (mostly because you can read that review here).
This allowed players to focus on the expansion’s content, but also identified how distinct the narratives were between seasonal and expansion content. It wasn’t the largest season of Destiny 2, and it was far less impressive than the Season of Arrivals in presentation — with no major audio or skybox changes to speak of — but the Season of the Hunt did manage to be consistent.
Before the Season had even started, Xivu Arath had already knocked the warlock Osiris on his ass and caused the death of our side-ghost Sagira (she exploded like a sun to save her Guardian) — an incredibly powerful moment that was, of course, shared with the community through a wall of text on Bungie’s news portal rather than an in-game cutscene.. The content that players can actually engage with sees our Guardian work with Osiris and the long-hidden Crow (the Light-risen corpse of Uldren Sov, who we either killed or were complicit in the death of) by chasing Xivu Arath’s bruiser, a giant Hive Knight called the High Celebrant

Bungie details Destiny 2’s Season of the Hunt in new Beyond Light roadmap [12]

On Tuesday morning, Bungie launched its new “ViDoc,” a 15 minute video previewing a bunch of new content coming soon to Destiny 2. The studio spoke about the season launching alongside Destiny 2: Beyond Light, called Season of the Hunt
In Season of the Hunt, players will work alongside Osiris and Uldren Sov — now going by The Crow — to stop Xivu Arath from amassing an army of Darkness. Players have never really encountered Oryx’s second sister, Xivu Arath, in-game before, so this should be a completely new story for players.
It seems that his resurrection is unknown in the Guardian community, as Ghost expresses some surprise at Uldren’s appearance in the trailer. According to senior design lead Lars Bakken, Uldren is also unaware of his actions in Destiny 2: Forsaken — meaning he has no idea he’s responsible for the death of Cayde-6 and opening of the Dreaming City

Before we get into what’s listed, keep in mind that Bungie doesn’t show everything that’s going to happen on their roadmaps. There will most likely be additional quests, exotics, and possibly even endgame content that hasn’t been revealed yet

The State of Destiny 2: Season of the Hunt [14]

November 2020 was a big event for the Destiny 2 community. Major sweeping changes were made to the game’s ecosystem, controversial elements were implemented, and the promise of brand new content that would shake up the entire experience were tossed about
Now that Beyond Light has been out and the first season of this new era, Season of the Hunt, is in its final weeks, it is time to look at these design decisions, the new content, and whether or not it lived up to the community’s expectations.. First I want to preface this overview by stating that I have nothing but the highest respect for everyone at Bungie who worked on all of this
They were cleaning up and refining underwhelming netcode, optimizing the entire experience to reduce loading times and speed up matchmaking, and preparing the game for its inevitable debut on next-gen consoles and PC hardware. All of this had to happen on top of brand new material for players to enjoy, all while working from home in the middle of the deadliest global pandemic in modern history
