Mum explains the right way to close cereal boxes as we’ve been doing it wrong
It turns out we’ve all been closing our cereal boxes wrong, according to a viral post on Facebook.
Couples and family celebrant Becky Holden McGhee, from Blackpool, discovered a genius hack to making sure cereal doesn’t go stale – and it’s all down to how we close the box.
Most cereal boxes come with a little tuck flap on the top but they rarely work, meaning the box often pops open and the cereal doesn’t stay fresh for long enough.
But Becky discovered a new way to close the box that keeps cereal fresher for longer while the box looks significantly neater.
She shared her discovery on Facebook, where it has since gone viral and gained more than 20,000 likes.
In her post, she said: “Had to share this!!!
“It’s only taken me 40 years, but I now know the correct way to close a cereal box.
“Genius. It takes seconds, no more dried up cereal and ugly torn boxes to greet me every morning
“**I’ve now added a little video on how to do it. Happy folding! You know I want to see pics!**”.
Becky’s video demonstration has been viewed more than three million times.
In the clip, she says: “Here is the easiest hack in the world to close your box.”
She then goes on to demonstrate the method for successfully closing the box, taking the smallest flaps at either side of the box and tucking them down flat inside the box.
Then, tuck one of the long flaps down and press it flat.
After that, fold the thin outer edges of the box in on themselves to make the top of the box narrow.
Finally, slide the remaining long flap inside the box where it will stay put and keep your cereal fresh.
